Foreword

Life And Light Apostolic Assembly

The Bible states that “they continued steadfastly in the Apostles’ doctrine and fellowship” (Acts 2: 42). It is therefore very important that members of Life and Light know the doctrines of the Church so that they may closely identify themselves with its fellowship. As a spirit led body of believers, the Church is exhorted to ” Grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3: 18).

Since the Spirit of God leads the Church into all truth (John 16: 13), this Statement of Beliefs does not constitute a closed creed. The Church constantly renews its commitment to truth and deeper understanding and responds to God’s guidance in its beliefs.

Statement of Beliefs

FIRST

First. We believe that the Scriptures, both the Old and New Testaments are the divinely inspired Word of God and are the revelation of God to man, the infallible, authoritative rule of faith and conduct (2 Tim. 3: 15 – 17; 2 Peter 1: 20, 21)

SECOND

Second. That there is only one true and living God, revealed to us as the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, the same in essence and equal in every divine perfection (Matt.28; 19; Jn. 14:16, 17; Matt. 1:23)

THIRD

Third. That the only way of salvation is by grace through faith in the atonement and righteousness of Jesus Christ (Jn. 3:16; Rom. 6: 22, 23; Eph. 2:8, Lk. 24: 47; Rm. 10: 13)

FOURTH

Fourth. That it is the duty of all mankind to confess their sins, repent and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ (Rm. 2:4; Matt. 3: 8; Acts 2:38; Rm. 10: 17)

FIFTH

Fifth. That water baptism is a symbolic expression of a believer’s repentance and acceptance of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior (Matt. 28: 19; Mk. 16: 16;Rm. 6: 4, 5), That the Lord’s Supper, consisting of the elements – bread and the fruit of the vine – is the memorial of Christ’s sufferings and death and a prophecy of His second coming (2 Pet. 1: 4;1Cor. 11: 26; Matt. 26: 26 – 28)

SIXTH

Sixth. That all believers are entitled to and should ardently expect and seek the promise of the Father, the baptism of the of the Holy Spirit, according to the command of our Lord Jesus Christ (Jn. 14: 16,17; Acts 1: 4, 8; 1 Cor. 12: 1 – 31; Jn. 16: 13)

SEVENTH

Seventh. That there will be a general resurrection of the dead and a general judgement when all mankind will be judged according to their deeds ( Jn. 14: 3; Matt. 24: 30; Acts 1: 11; Rev.1: 7; Jn. 5: 28, 29; 1 Thess. 4: 15 – 17 )

EIGHTH

Eighth. That the Church, or Body of Christ, consists of all who have acknowledged their sins, repented, and believed on the Lord Jesus Christ and in whom the Holy Spirit abides. The Church is commissioned to preach the gospel, teach all that Christ has commanded, and to nurture the flock. In fulfilling this mission, the Church is directed by the Holy Spirit, the Holy Scriptures, and looks continually to Jesus Christ, its living Head (Matt. 28: 19, 20; 1 Cor. 12: 13; Acts 2: 1 – 4; Rm. 8: 9)

NINTH

Ninth. That the Head of the Church is Jesus Christ. He guides the Church in the will of God as revealed by His Holy Spirit in the scriptures. The pastor of the local church is the under-shepherd of the flock, supported by the ministers of the church (Eph. 1:22; Col. 1: 18;Eph. 4: 11)

TENTH

Tenth. That the Christian ministry is a divinely appointed means of spreading the Gospel throughout the world. It is therefore the duty of all Christians, according to their ability, to contribute to its support (Heb. 7: 4; 1 Cor. 9: 1 – 14; Lev. 27: 30).

COVENANT OF BELIEVERS

Life And Light Apostolic Assembly

As we trust we have been brought by divine grace to embrace the Lord Jesus Christ, and by the influence of His Spirit to give ourselves up to Him, so we do solemnly covenant with each other, that God enabling us,

  • We will walk together in brotherly love.
  • That we will exercise a Christian care and watchfulness over each other, and faithfully warn, rebuke and admonish one another as the case shall require; and in all things we will seek and guard the honor and the true function of the church.
  • That we will not forget the assembling of ourselves together, nor neglect the great duty of prayer, both for ourselves and for others, and for the enterprises of the Kingdom of God.
  • That we will share in each other’s joys, and endeavor with tenderness and sympathy, to bear each other’s burdens and sorrows.
  • That we will earnestly endeavor to bring up such as are, or may be, under our care, in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
  • That we will seek divine aid to enable us to walk circumspectly and watchfully in the world, denying ungodliness and every worldly lust.
  • That we will endeavor by example and effort to win souls to Christ, and through life, amidst evil report and good report, seek to live to the glory of Him who has called us out of darkness into His marvelous light.

Amen!
