Our History
Life and Light Apostolic Assembly was established in 1953 at Mount View, St. Lucy, on the island of Barbados, under the spiritual leadership of the late Bishop Cameron Boyce. The mission of the Church is to preach the gospel of the Kingdom of God in our communities and beyond, leading many to Christ for the salvation of their souls, and their personal growth and development in the Lord. With the help of the Holy Spirit, we seek to accomplish our mission by becoming living examples of righteousness.
Age of Fifteen
At the tender age of fifteen, Cameron Boyce prayed that should the Lord allow him to own a particular parcel of land, the first thing he would do is to have a portion surveyed and offered to some missionary to erect a building for the worship unto God. This prayer was answered, but little did he know that God had elected him to be the spiritual leader of this church.
In The Early 1950’s
The Church was started in the home of Cameron Boyce in the early 1950’s. Together with his first wife, the late Cecilia Boyce, and their children and a few other believers, services were held in a room in their home that was consecrated to the service of the Lord. God blessed many souls in that home and everyone soon understood that there was nothing more satisfying than obeying the voice of God.
Bishop Cameron Boyce
In 1953, after some land was acquired and subdivided, a plot was dedicated unto the service of our Lord. God then directed Bishop Cameron Boyce to construct a place of worship on this plot. This seem a daunting task for the small gathering that included about six gainfully employed persons. It even looked harder as God directed the people not go around begging for support for the construction of His sanctuary. The building was to be constructed based on the tithes and offerings of the members, and those whose hearts God would touch to give willingly, either monetarily or by volunteering their skills. The building was completed and dedicated to the service of our Lord in 1953.
Miracles were Performed in The Church
The Church continued to grow and brethren were filled with the Holy Spirit and witnessed the power of God as many miracles were performed in the Church. As the years passed, God caused many others to be touched by the message of Life and Light, some through dreams and visions, others through invitations and curiosity. The message of the Kingdom of God was carried beyond the walls of the Church to the entire length and breadth of the island via open-air services. Many souls were led to Christ across the island, and many souls were added to the Church.
